Turbine, Inc. is a premier creator and operator of massive, persistent online worlds that foster powerful social gaming communities. Turbine is wholly owned by Warner Bros. Home Entertainment Group and has created some of the world’s most popular and award-winning online games, including The Lord of the Rings Online™, Dungeons & Dragons Online®, and Asheron's Call®.
Zap Creative was hired by Turbine to design the structure of their 20x30 island exhibit for the PAX 2009 show in Seattle.
Turbine had several challenges in the exhibit design, they were looking for a reception counter, a central tower to house servers, and 8 kiosks or workstations connected to the tower.
Being a video game developer, the tower needed to act as a server room for very large, very hot workstations. They needed 8 workstations with large monitors so players could demo Turbines latest release, Dungeons and Dragons Online. This was sure to attract an especially large draw as they were announcing at this show that DDO was now Free to Play.
Zap Creative came up with a central tower featuring light wood laminate, aluminum extrusions, and tension graphics at the top to showcase the new games logo and artwork. Two 12' high "L" shaped towers were created to display more dynamic artwork and game play scenes. The central room included a graphic on one end that also served as a door to allow access to the interior. The inside of the room included custom shelves to house literature, personal effects and the game servers.
